Position Purpose The Key Account Manager - National Accounts position is responsible for providing technical guidance, consultation, and interpretation to the national retail customer segment (corporate and franchisee) across a wide range of topics including engineering, regulatory, rates, billing, power quality, and account services. This position supports the customer by resolving customers’ technical and regulatory issues, driving customer interactions with internal stakeholders, and mitigating the impacts of electric and gas utility service issues to a customer’s operations. The position will work to identify and develop customer support strategies to aid growing customers and new customers with potential for growth. The Account Manager ensures that all services are provided in accordance with company rules, regulations, policies, and goals, while maintaining/enhancing relationships and ensuring a positive customer experience.

Required Education & Experience A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 1 – 3 years of professional experience or a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 – 5 years of professional and technical experience in electric/gas utility distribution operations or technical consulting work; Should possess a basic understanding of the electric and gas distribution business; Experience in managing and facilitating customer issues and projects with competing priorities in a timely and effective manner utilizing supervision when needed; Possess solid interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact, courtesy, professionalism, and discretion while dealing with individuals at all levels within an organization; Demonstrated proficiency in the use of database applications; Fundamental analytical skills and the demonstrated use of MS Excel are required; Demonstrated proficiency with written and verbal communications, presentations, and meeting facilitation is required; Must possess a valid vehicle driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of utility rate structures and calculations, tariffs, utility operations, power quality, service restoration processes, utility load control programs, interconnection programs, and demand side management programs, distributed generation technologies and their application to industrial and commercial customers is desired; Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, remain highly flexible, and take initiative in a demanding and changing work environment with rapidly changing priorities

Job Description

  • Provides guidance and consultation on electric and gas tariffs, rates, and regulations and performs rate calculations and analysis to ensure rate designations are in accordance with regulatory filings and Sarbanes Oxley controls

  • Evaluates customer energy demand and usage and provides solutions and consultation to national retail energy managers and senior leadership

  • With guidance investigates power quality issues (i.e. outages, voltage sag and swells, momentary operations, other disturbances, etc.) and translates/filters information to customers as determined appropriate

  • Provides consultation and guidance on technologies and solutions to improve customer power factor with assistance from peers

  • Investigates billing inquiries, issues and errors and works with internal departments to reconcile in accordance with regulatory or company policies

  • Supports annual rate validation process to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements

  • Provides account management support to customers via on-site visits, scheduled customer meetings, email or phone communications to meet the needs of customers and the specific situation

  • Manages the coordination and communication of construction schedules through a wide range of internal departments to ensure the customer’ electric and gas service needs are met

  • Interprets load data information accordingly for rate determination, billing and contract purposes factoring in connected load and diversity factors; Engages with engineering design to ensure appropriate infrastructure meets the customer’s electric or gas service needs; Utilizes peers to advise external engineers on the completion of load data sheets

  • With direction reads and interprets company and customer electric and gas engineering design schematics (i.e. commercial and industrial designs, distribution systems, substations, etc.)

  • With supervisory approval, prepares and executes electric and gas service, excess facilities, economic development rider, and calculates customer contract capacities

  • Prepares reports and briefings for a wide range of stakeholders (internal and external) including company and customer senior management and executives

  • Promotes energy efficiency programs, economic development opportunities, renewable energy initiatives, and general company offerings to customers

  • Proactively identifies potential customer situations and manages difficult, sensitive, or confrontational issues to achieve mutually successful outcomes with minimal supervision

  • Provides electric and gas outage response support and restoration support efforts as needed throughout the company service territory

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management

Work Conditions Normal office environment with some outside field work; Exposure to a wide variety of field and industrial environments; Available to provide support 24/7 service to industrial and commercial customers; Limited overnight travel is required but must be able to travel throughout the company’s Kentucky and Virginia service territory

Physical Effort Primarily sitting when in office; Frequent standing and walking required when visiting customer facilities to include climbing stairs, walking over uneven ground, work within wide range of temperatures (indoors and outdoors) and a variety of industrial and commercial work environments throughout the company’s Kentucky and Virginia service territory
