Position Purpose This position is responsible for directing all aspects of the Company’s business and economic development strategies and implementation. Position serves as key liaison with statewide government and entities involved in economic development, growth and retention of large commercial and industrial customer segments. Provides strategic leadership in the execution of marketing initiatives and analytics for the Company. Leads marketing activities related to building business cases and strategies to support new business opportunities. Directs the development, expansion and management of new and emerging technologies and evolving customer products and services and related analytics. Leads new business development, economic development, and Energy Efficiency strategy including the design, development, implementation, operation, management, evaluation and reporting of programs and initiatives in both the Demand Side Management (DSM) and non-DSM areas.
Required Education & Experience Advanced degree preferred in Business or Engineering. Ten or more years of related experience. Demonstrated experience working with senior executives in large businesses/commercial/industrial area. Proven strategic thinking. Outstanding leadership capabilities. Knowledge of state and federal energy issues.
Preferred Qualifications Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Should possess excellent interpersonal ability to handle the communicative aspects of this job including relationship building with internal and external stakeholders. Strong written and oral presentation skills and a demonstrated track record of external public speaking in Company-related venues. Strong leadership and entrepreneurial skills coupled with analytical ability to interpret data. Solid strategic thinker with capability to identify and address customer expectations in a changing energy environment. Innovative in developing solutions and proposals to address customer needs.
Job Description Serves as a Company executive spokesperson in venues involving economic development and business efforts, including educational outreach.
Directs the development and execution of strategies to address the energy needs and options for residential, commercial, and industrial customers, and establishes Company credibility as a source of energy services and solutions.
Innovator for the Company with customer segment in delivering energy solutions and product development for emerging businesses in an effort to meet customer needs and drive economic development as the utility industry continues to evolve.
Develop, deploy, and sustain initiatives that earn the trust and confidence of large commercial and industrial accounts relative to how the electricity provided by the Company impacts their business. This is a broad responsibility requiring the development of a customer support strategy which establishes effective two-way communication about the physical service provided and the accurate application of rates, tariffs, policies, procedures and energy programs.
Leads the strategic processes, including development and recommendation of performance metrics on trending and benchmarking, to develop “go to market” strategies supporting Company growth objectives and emerging business while achieving Company financial and regulatory goals.
Develops business cases that clearly support recommended strategies with the appropriate data and analytics and clearly show the value to the Company and its customers. Upon approval to proceed, develops tactical implementation steps to develop strategies into on-going operations.Monitor industry trends and identify, manage, and communicate issues that may impact the Company's reputation, performance, or its energy efficiency and demand response programs. Continuously look for opportunities to enhance and promote the awareness, reputation and credibility of the Company to customers, communities and key external stakeholders.
Directs the Company’s Energy Efficiency strategy including the research, evaluation and development of the Company’s portfolio of energy efficiency programs and initiatives. Stays abreast of emerging utility energy trends and technologies to ensure effective quality solutions for customers on energy projects/solutions and possesses strong understanding of regulatory/legislative initiatives that impact the gas and electric industry, utility regulation (Federal and State) and reliability policies and procedures and provides guidance to staff in those areas.
Develops and maintains strong and effective relationships with internal stakeholders (such as Rates and Regulatory, Electric Distribution Operations, Gas Operations, Energy Planning and Analysis and Forecasting, Research and Development, Corporate Communications, and External Affairs) and external stakeholders (large industrial and commercial customers, government officials, community and civic leaders, the Kentucky Public Service Commission, etc.).
Represents the Company in regulatory proceedings and collaborative efforts concerning emerging businesses and economic development efforts.
Represents the Company within constituent communities and serves on boards, advisory committees and task forces to advance the Company’s role in business and economic development. Select and develop individuals who have the skills and competencies to implement the support strategy effectively.
Provide leadership and strategic focus for staff, with particular emphasis on building successful business relationships with key decision makers. Organize the work group in a manner that meets the objectives of the Company customer experience strategy and continuously optimizes group effectiveness, operational efficiency and performance excellence.
Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.
Work Conditions Normal office environment. Some travel required. Customer site and plant visits – subject to dirt, heat, noise, fumes, etc.
Physical Effort Primarily sitting with optional standing and walking.
