Position Purpose Employee will assist in the performance of work in the installation and maintenance of equipment and services necessary to operate utility enterprise-wide integrated voice, data, video, control, transmission, and wireless communications networks.

Required Education & Experience

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.

Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.

Employee must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.

Employee must have a valid state driver’s license and pass the Transportation Department’s driver’s test for operating company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions.

Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.

Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.

Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include heavy manual labor. Employee must satisfactorily pass a physical agility test to ensure ability to perform the required tasks.

Employee must be able to pass the U.S. Department of Transportation medical examination required for commercial motor vehicle certification.

Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.

Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.

Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.

Employee must be willing to carry through work assignments, and must be willing to conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.

Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs which are promulgated by Louisville Gas and Electric to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge and problem solving skills.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must be willing to work near high voltage equipment.

Employee must have an associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent work experience and/or training as determined by department management.

Employee must be familiar with standard electrical and electronic symbols and analysis.

Employee must have a working knowledge of general electronics testing equipment.

Employee must be familiar with vehicle structure and electrical systems.

Employee must have a working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of soldering irons, electric drills and other power tools associated with the performance of assigned duties.

Employee must be capable of distinguishing basic colors.

Employee holding a FCC General Radiotelephone operator license is preferred, but not required.

Preferred Qualifications Duties will include, but are not limited to: 1. Employee will learn to install and maintain utility network equipment and services under direction. Utility network equipment and services is defined, but not limited to microwave, 2- way radio, voice, data, video, control, transmission, and wireless communications networks. 2. Employee will learn basic installation, maintenance, and operation of voice, data, video, control, transmission and wireless network technologies, and the services provided by these technologies. 3. Employee will work during emergency conditions, as directed by supervision. 4. Employee will drive a Company vehicle in the performance of his or her duties. 5. Employee will perform cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance duties required at job site, buildings, etc., or in connection with equipment, tools, and material. 6. Employee will learn to operate and maintain utility network test equipment as required to perform all job duties. 7. Employee will learn the locations of utility network equipment operated by Louisville Gas and Electric, its parent, subsidiaries and affiliates. 8. Employee will abide by Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations pertaining to Louisville Gas and Electric Company operations. Employee will adhere to all corporate compliance and security procedures, as well as the Uniform Work Rules.

Job Description

GENERAL DUTIES

The normal duties may include but are not limited to:

Employee will be fluent in English and knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.

Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in training activities.

Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualification sections of this job classification. Employee will demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Louisville Gas and Electric to assure correct classification of employees.

Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.

Employee will perform duties of higher classifications that are incidental to the job and which are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.

Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.

Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.

Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required and maintain necessary work records.

Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude. This includes that uniforms and safety equipment will be clean and worn correctly.
